SSS

Scottish Universities Sport was set up in June 2005, in 2011 this became Scottish Student Sport (SSS) with the stated aims of ensuring quality and breadth in well-managed sporting programmes, increasing and promoting involvement in Physical Activity, and aiding and supporting the development of appropriate professional structures and systems throughout sport in Higher Education in Scotland.
SSS is a partnership between the Sports Unions and Sport and Exercise Departments of Scotland's Universities - with the aim of continually developing and improving the sport and physical activity programmes that they are involved in.
The work of SSS is encapsulated well in its strapline -
Active • Competitive • Innovative.
Active
The value of physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle is irrefutable, and it is a key SSS project to promote, develop, and integrate physical activity programmes into wider University life. With such a high percentage of Scotland's youth in Higher or Further Education, SSS will capitalise on the knowledgeable staff and excellent facilities in its member institutions to help to change attitudes, and to get more people, more active, more often.
Competitive
SSS strives to deliver an enjoyable, appropriate, and increasingly modern and professional sporting programme to students. SSS provides efficient, effective and reliable competitive structures, appropriate to the needs and requirements of the student competitors within them - whether they are beginners or at an elite level.
Innovative
Thinking and operating in new ways, SSS will rely heavily on a comprehensive and reliable communications network, and will develop models of good practise to be shared throughout the sector - including procedures to support and train key delivery personnel at grass roots level.
SSS aims to be active and pro-active in promoting the benefits of sport and physical activity, to provide competitive sports on a range of levels for Scotland's students and to be innovative, flexible and dynamic in its working arrangements across the sector.
