Saturday Yacht Sailing

Where We're Meeting

Meet Saturday morning at 08:30 at the PU bus stop on Princess Street (opposite Next/River Island) as we will aim to get the 08:50 bus to South Queensferry.  We will be using the number 43 bus which takes us to the police station at South Queensferry and it is a 5 minute walk to Port Edgar Watersports (in Port Edgar Marina).

Please make sure you arrive in plenty of time so that we can make sure everyone is there - we will have a register with your names on.

If you need to arrive at an alternative time or are taking alternative transport, then please let Hugh know by sending me a text on 07500003268 (leave your name so he knows who you are!).

What to Bring/Wear

Tomorrow is looking quite windy still so please bring lots of warm layers and any waterproofs which you might have.  We will be able to provide you with some waterproofs as well as personal buoyancy aids/life jackets for your safety when you are on the boat.  Also, do remember to bring a spare change of clothes and a towel in case you get wet - this is a water sport after all!  Though, it is not likely to be wet tomorrow, just a bit chilly!

Costs

  • The cost for the taster session is £10.00 per person - you can purchase a ticket on this event page
  • Money for the bus; a day ticket for the bus tomorrow costs £5.00 (as it is in the East Country zone) which you will either need the exact change or pre-purchase the tickets on your phone using the Lothian Buses app called 'm-tickets'
  • Lastly, if you don't bring lunch with you then there are a couple of cafes to buy food at the marina

A Few Things About the Day

  • You will always be sailing with at least one or two experienced sailors on board the boat, so don't fret about going out on your own!
  • The day will run roughly 09:30 - 16:30 so that we can get the 16:43 or 17:03 bus back home (they run every 20 minutes), we will have lunch in the middle at around 12:30 for around 45 minutes
  • The day is casual and is aimed around what you want from the session, so if there is something you would like to do then just ask - we don't bite

And Finally...

The day is mainly aimed at getting you on the water and having a good time, it is also a chance for you to ask lots of questions about the club and what we can provide for you.  We will be looking at organising more yachting training and beginner/intermediate sessions throughout the year which will keep at a low cost for members - after this weekend you will need to purchase membership with the sailing club as the membership includes insurance which covers you for when you're sailing with us.

To purchase a sailing club membership, following this link: https://www.eusu.ed.ac.uk/organisation/sailing/ we would love you to become members and help support the club - all the money we receive from memberships goes back into subsidising costs to get students sailing for as cheap as possible, so you will get back from what you pay if you carry on sailing with us!

Make sure you are a member of a Facebook group and have liked our Facebook page to keep up to date with everything which is going on, including a social which we will be hosting on Saturday night!
