Over 130 people took part in the first ever #EdinburghGirlsCan 5km, at the Meadows on 26th November to support equality, diversity and inclusion in sport.
The event was organised by the University’s Feminist Society, Hare and Hounds Running Club and Sports Union, as part of the Edinburgh Girls Can campaign week.
In an event, open to all, Darko Perovic was the first to cross the line (19 minutes 52 seconds), with Millie Gray being the first woman to finish, in a time of 21 minutes 16 seconds – with the rest of the field following in a day of exceptional times.
However, the real success of the event was the number of students involved and engaged on Sunday afternoon, taking part in the event, volunteering and raising awareness for #EdinburghGirlsCan. The weather certainly helped, as despite the low temperatures, the sun held out and it remained dry, bright and clear.
If you are a student, who participated in the run, and are keen to run on a more regular basis, with like-minded people, then the Hare and Hounds running club have weekly jogging groups that go around the city at a very casual pace (great to have a chat). The club welcome all students, regardless of your ability or previous experience. For more information, click here
Finally, a massive thank you to everyone who was involved in organising an incredible event, with particular thanks to the Hare and Hounds Running Club, and the University’s Feminist Society, and to all participants – it might just be the start of an annual event!
