We spoke to our Hare and Hounds Club to find out about how they used their alumni fund to replace their gazebo frame after it was damaged by high winds.
"In late 2021, we had the unfortunate accident of having our Hare and Hounds branded gazebo damaged in high winds while hosting the SSS Cross-Country at Craigmillar. Since purchasing the gazebo a couple of years ago, it has had extensive use as Harie HQ at XC races and as race HQ while hosting Braids and other events. It has been a real asset to the club on a number of levels. Firstly, it provides the club with a sheltered space in which club members can base themselves at races. Secondly, it is really good advertising for the club, making the club more recognisable in public and showing our presence at races. Finally having a clear and obvious base at races allows prospective members to come and speak to current members and committee, finding out more about the club, how we operate and how other students balance studies with running.
Having seen the benefit of the gazebo to the club, and its potential to continue to provide benefit, we thought that it would be very appropriate for us to use the alumni fund to replace the gazebo frame. This has allowed us to get the gazebo back up and running, and continue to reap the rewards from it. We would like to thank all who have contributed to the alumni fund which has facilitated this."
