Hi, I’m Heather (she/her), and I have been Gymnastics President for the past two years, a role I have found incredibly rewarding. 

Gymnastics have really benefitted from working with groups outside the university, from social sponsorships to more informal work with other sports clubs. However small, links with other groups can really help improve the experience of club members and make an impact on the community outside the University. I will use my experience from working with these groups to help clubs strengthen their existing partnerships and seek out new ones. 

I also have experience organising various events through Gymnastics, so will be well placed to assist clubs with things like alumni days. Sport has been a big part of my time at university and is certainly something I will appreciate years down the line, which is why I am keen to help clubs keep in contact with their alumni. 

Manifesto 

Reconnecting with Alumni 

• Help clubs who may not have maintained strong connections with their alumni take steps to get back in touch. This could be something simple like setting up a Facebook group or newsletter, to holding an alumni event.  

• Showcase the incredible work clubs already do with alumni by expanding the alumni section of the website. Highlight some of our amazing alumni and give a clear way for alumni to get back in contact with clubs. 

Building Partnerships 

• Help clubs identify the partnerships they already have – doing this can help making things more official and ensuring that these partnerships can be built on and passed on to future committees. 

• Reaching out to external organisations to find a new sponsorship or begin a new partnership can be daunting. Compile a best practise guide from clubs who have had success doing this, to help clubs know where to start. 

• There are also many great partnership opportunities within the University. Help clubs get involved with these too! 

My experience as a club President has been great, and I would really like to channel my enthusiasm for sport into the role of Partnerships and Alumni Officer.
