Election Address:

Hiya! My name is India (she/her), and I am a third-year Graphic Design student and dedicated student-athlete for Edinburgh University's Women's 2s Water Polo Team. Being a national athlete before university, it was not surprising how EUSU has shaped my university experience so far. This year, I have been part of the SU Media Team and served Edinburgh University's Swimming and Water Polo Club as the Publicity and Alumni Officer. I have combined my creative and sports passions in both committee roles through media management and advertisement. I produced a distinct brand identity across all seven social media platforms in my club and designed the SU Intramural Sports and All Stars branding. Through the SU Media Officer role, I plan to give back to our vibrant sporting community by leveraging my love for sport and art to foster a sense of belonging and family within EUSU.

Participating as a Media Officer in two committees has taught me the importance of inclusivity and participation across media platforms. Creating cohesive branding promotes a sense of belonging among club members, and if elected, I intend to extend my skills to assist other clubs in building their own media presence. I will promote networking and partnership-building ambitions whilst prioritising all sports club members' physical, mental and social wellbeing by proposing initiatives like "Feel Good Fridays" to recognise efforts beyond sports activities. Through these strategies, I aspire to cultivate an inclusive, diverse, dynamic sports community where every member feels valued and supported. With this dedication to continuous improvement and collaboration, I am confident I can effectively serve as next year's SU Media Officer.

Manifesto:

If elected as the SU Media Officer, I will foster networking partnerships and encourage widespread engagement within the SU through its media platform. Employing my expertise in Graphic Design and extensive involvement in sports, I envision achieving this goal by ensuring representation for every sports club within our vibrant sporting community. To implement these aspirations, I intend to:

  1. Empower Media Officers and Workshop Initiatives: Encourage Media Officers across UoE Sports to integrate with the SU Media Team, utilising all available resources that can help elevate all sports clubs' media presence through graphics and photography. This will diversify SU publicity coverage by facilitating collaborative ties between Media Officers and their respective clubs. I additionally plan to extend relaxed, accessible workshops to smaller clubs to unify their brand identity and strengthen their visibility within the SU.
  2. Wellbeing and Inclusion: Emphasise the significance of the new "Wellbeing and Inclusion Officer" role within the SU by prioritising the physical, mental and social wellbeing of sports club members beyond the confines of training sessions, academic commitments, and competitions. I believe in establishing a dedicated section within SU media titled "Feel Good Fridays", where we can celebrate the efforts of sports clubs looking after their associates outside of their sport.
  3. Participation: Build upon the successful endeavours of past SU Media Officers and help establish the new role of "Participation Officer." In conclusion, my objective is to emphasise the participation of all sports clubs, including Intramural Sports and All Stars, while also promoting inclusivity through essential campaigns and events. These include the Rainbow Laces Campaign, Black History Month, LGBTQ+ History Month, International Women's Day, and more.

With these strategies in place, I will be dedicated to nurturing a thriving, inclusive, and interconnected sports community within our university, ensuring that every member of the SU feels valued, supported, and empowered.
