ELECTION ADDRESS
My name is Jamie and I am running for Intramural Sports Coordinator.
I am a second year Physical Education student from Banchory, Aberdeenshire. From a young age I have been obsessed with sports such as cycling, football, running, skiing, tennis and more. Due to this obsession, I have always had a massive eagerness to let others see the importance of sports for physical, social and mental benefits.
Due to having such a passion with sport the majority of my time is spent involving sport in some capacity. Such as playing pickle-ball with friends, watching football with my mates, going on runs to clear my head, or being lucky enough to have jobs that involve coaching sports to kids. Sport has played a huge part in my university life, and I plan to continue in this fashion.
MANIFESTO
As the Intramural Coordinator, I would uphold the values of inclusivity, diversity, and enjoyment. Drawing from my experience as an Active Lives assistant and a member of the Hare and Hounds running club, I understand the impact sports can have in bringing together students and staff while promoting physical and mental well-being.
I recognise the importance of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students and staff feel valued and supported. My experience as an Active Lives assistant as part of Sport and Exercise within the university has taught me the significance of communication in producing effective teamwork and ensuring that our programmes are accessible to everyone, regardless of background or ability.
As a Physical Education student, I am committed to enhancing student well-being through sports. I understand the holistic nature of sport and its ability to reduce stress, foster a sense of belonging, and promote mental health. As the Intramural Coordinator, I will prioritise initiatives that prioritise the physical and mental well-being of our participants.
I believe in the power of intramural sports to inspire participation and personal growth. By continuously encouraging participants to join or form intramural teams, I aim to foster a culture of physical activity, social interaction, and skill development. As a member of the Hare and Hounds running club, I have experienced firsthand the benefits of staying physically and socially active, attributes that I will promote as the Intramural Coordinator.
I am committed to upholding the values of Sports and Exercise at Edinburgh University. I will be open, listening, and learning from my peers, while remaining honest and enthusiastic in my work. I will maintain optimism, constantly striving for the big picture, and enabling excellence both in myself and others by taking pride in my work, being accountable, and celebrating the achievements of my peers.
Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto and I hope you take me into consideration as the next Intramural Sports Coordinator.
