Election Address:

Hello, my name is Vlada and I am a third year law and politics student. Throughout my years at the university, I have joined numerous sports clubs, including, Women's Football, Futsal and Volleyball competitive teams, and Basketball intramural team. Therefore, sport has become such an important part of my university experience because it provided me with long-lasting friendships, personal growth and plenty of opportunities where I can showcase my talent.

In my role as the Secretary for Women's Football and co-captain of the intramural basketball team, I have perfected my knowledge and skills essential for the role of Honorary Secretary. My administrative work with the Women's Football Club demonstrates my organisational and time management skills, leadership abilities and minutes taking skills. Working closely with the SU all season, I have gained an appreciation for their pivotal role in the sporting community at the University of Edinburgh.

The experience gained from participating in a variety of sport clubs enabled me to gain an understanding of the Sport at Edinburgh and the integral role that the SU plays. Therefore, running for Honorary Secretary is my way of contributing to the community that the SU has made feel like home and enriched my university life.

Recently elected as the Women's President of the Futsal Club, I further solidified my leadership position. My commitment to the sports community, coupled with skills developed through active participation and leadership roles, makes me the ideal candidate for the role of Honorary Secretary.

Manifesto:

Effective Communication:

  • As a Secretary for Women’s Football, I understand how necessary effective  communication is to ensure smooth flow of things in the committee, and I was very lucky to have that at Women’s Football. Therefore, I want to ensure that the communication among the executive members of Sports Union and the clubs stays as effective as possible. I want to ensure transparent and comprehensive communication within the Sports Union by maintaining accurate records and detailed minutes of all discussions, planning, and achievements during meetings. As well as, work closely with the Sports Coordinator (Transport and Administration) to enhance the accessibility of information.

Policy Review and Enhancement

  • Policy is an important part of Sports Union, therefore I want to take a proactive role in continuously evaluating existing SU policies, identifying areas that may require adaptation or improvement. To achieve this, I would like to establish a systematic schedule for reviewing and updating SU policies when necessary, to ensure that they remain current and effective. More importantly, I want to advocate for policies that promote equal opportunities, fair treatment, and diversity within the Sports Union, and other clubs which should contribute to a positive and inclusive community at the Sport of University of Edinburgh.

Efficient Record Keeping

  • Minutes is such an important part of being a secretary, in a way, it is part of the legacy of the Sports Union. Therefore, with my experience in taking minutes within my role of a Women’s Football Secretary, I want to ensure that the Sports Union continuously has an accurate documentation and easy retrieval of information. I will achieve this by meticulous record-keeping and timely minute-taking during all Sports Union meetings. Efficient record keeping would undoubtedly enhance the effective communication in Sports Union, and clubs, which is why I would like to establish transparent communication channels for the distribution of meeting minutes promptly to all the clubs participants, and thus promote openness and inclusivity within the sport community.
