Hello! My name is Katy (she/her) and I am a Postgraduate MSc Strength and Conditioning Student as well as being a member of the Cheerleading and Dance Club. I am the current media officer for the Sports Union and have previously held committee roles for EUCD as Dance Captain and Competitive Vice Captain. Additionally I am a 3rd year intern with pleasance gym and strength and conditioning within the performance programme. Being involved with the Sports Union Executive Committee, EUCD, as well as Sport and Exercise throughout my time at university has had a massively positive influence on my time at university, therefore by running for honorary secretary I hope to continue to work towards the goals of the SU and give back to help other to have the same amazing experience that I have had. Observing the behind-the-scenes over the past year I understand the commitment and hard work that is required to fulfil this role. With my past experience/knowledge of the SU, commitment to improvement and liaising between clubs and committee, I am confident that I am a strong candidate for Honorary Secretary for the upcoming year.

Manifesto

If elected as Honorary Secretary, I will be committed to improving the communication between clubs and the SU to ensure that clubs receive the support they require. Some of my key priorities include:

  • Communication. I believe that clear and concise communication between clubs and committee is extremely important. As honorary secretary, I will continue to work to improve communication between the SU and committees to support clubs. This includes providing transparency around decisions made by executive committee and following up meetings by distributing minutes.
  • Club Support. As honorary secretary, I will work to ensure that all clubs have the support, resources and facilities necessary to grow and develop where possible. This includes liaising between Exec, SU Staff and club committees/members.
  • Achievement recognition. Within my current role of media officer, I understand the importance of highlighting the the achievements of sport at Edinburgh. I will engage with awards committees to ensure that wider, holistic achievements are celebrated, such as participation and fundraising, alongside performance results.

Ultimately, I will be committed to widening sport participation and offering across the SU by ensuring that clubs have the necessary support to do so.
