Election Address

Heya! I’m Connie, a third-year Sociology and Psychology student. I am the current Women’s Captain of the Athletics Club and the incoming Publicity and Vice Social Secretary.

My favourite events in Athletics are javelin and pole vault, but tracking athletes as they race down the lane and capturing post-game celebrations through my camera lens are what I enjoy the most.

As part of SU media team and athletics’ #1 paparazzi, I’ve covered fixtures and game days across all kinds of sports. My main goals would be to expand the media team and collaborate with club publicity officers to showcase our team spirit. I also aim to increase the representation of niche sports and recreational teams, ensuring every athlete’s story is heard.

From action shots and athlete portraits to spotlight interviews and Instagram reels — I can’t wait to share Team Edinburgh’s success and sportsmanship as the SU Media Officer!

Manifesto

Beyond Just Game Days

Team Edinburgh is more than match results. From training sessions and fundraising events to behind-the-scenes moments, every aspect of university sport deserves to be seen. I want to highlight the dedication, sportsmanship, and team spirit that make our sports community so special.

Championing Niche & Recreational Sports

Every club at Edinburgh deserves recognition, including the lesser known and niche sports! I am passionate about giving smaller and recreational sports the same platform to showcase their achievements and stories. Edinburgh’s sports scene is incredibly diverse, and I want to make sure every athlete and club gets the visibility they deserve.

Strengthening Collaboration Across the SU & the SU Clubs

The media team is just one piece of the puzzle. I want to work closely with club publicity officers, EUTV, and other media societies to showcase the everyday lives of student-athletes, from training sessions to competitions. Additionally, I will collaborate with fellow SU exec members to ensure all events receive the promotion and media presence they need to thrive.

Expanding Professional Development for the Media Team

As a photographer in the SU Media Team, I’ve seen the enthusiasm for skill development firsthand. I want to introduce more opportunities, such as workshops and practical trainings, to help our team grow in sports photography, journalism, and content creation. Beyond game days, I aim to expand media coverage to trainings, club balls, social events, and behind-the-scenes moments, ensuring our team gains valuable experience across different aspects of sports media.
