I’m currently your Intramural Football Officer and the Youth Ambassador of Change for Refereeing at the Scottish FA for 2018-21!

I’ve been involved in various projects and governance decisions at a national level. I have a seat on the SFA Youth Congress, a decision-making vehicle for the SFA. I’m involved in contributing to our response to the COVID-19 pandemic and have been directly involved in various successful projects including Show Racism the Red Card campaigns and being on the panel which made key changes to the rules which govern Scottish Football after the investigation into non-recent Sexual Abuse. I have also been lucky enough to work with UEFA across the Womens U19s European Championships in 2019.

I am really keen to bring this experience to the SU and support the development of our great intramural program. I already have established working relationship with national sports organisations, and I’d look to continue this great relationship to create the best sporting experience for every Edinburgh University Student!

Manifesto

My manifesto is called “Red Card”! This is a really clear outline of what I’ll deliver as your Vice President Intramural and the reasons you can trust me to succeed! I’ve chosen important but more vitally achievable goals for the coming year!

What do I bring to the role!

R

  • Resilience:- I have already operated in large sports organisations through the pandemic. I will react to last minute changes appropriately and ensure we operate in a way that gets as many students safely playing sport as soon as possible!

E

  • Experienced:- I have a significant volume of experience both within and outside of the Sports Union! I’ll bring fresh ideas and strong experienced leadership to the table!

  • Delivery:- I’ve been involved in delivering projects for national sports organisations and the SU for a number of years! I’m experienced enough to deliver the promises I’ve made!

What I will achieve in the role!

  • Community:- The Intramural Program makes up around 20-25% of the SU membership. As we come out of lockdown and the economy begins to reopen, we all face the significant challenge to socialise again. I will work with the IM Officers and Sports Coordinator to create a Social Toolkit to assist every Intramural team and club in creating interteam/sport socials! In addition to this, I will work with external local businesses to ensure Intramural Clubs have access to a wide range of discounts and benefits for everything from sports equipment through to that queue skip or cheaper entry on a night out (“Yes you’re on the guestlist!”). I will represent your interests to ensure that we develop a real sense of Intramural Community in the coming year.

  • Accessibility:- With the recent changes to scholarship and discretionary funding by the University, widening participation and students in significant hardship may struggle to afford to access Sports. I pledge to ensure funds are utilised appropriately to directly tackle the cost barrier faced by widening participation students or students in financial hardship. Sport, exercise, camaraderie and team spirit are so important for mental and physical health and absolutely enhances every student’s university experience. I promise that I will remove as many barriers as I can for students to access sport.

  • Responsive:- I will ensure the IM program is responsive to the ever changing restrictions around social gatherings and sport. I have a lot of experience working with COVID changes and policy and I’ll ensure we take the best route possible back to sports. I will be transparent in the process and will ensure clubs are informed of developments as they happen as opposed to after.

  • Development:- I want to develop this program to encompass as many sports, students and officials as possible. I pledge to work with each IM Officer and their clubs to develop their needs as they see fit; I’ll be directed by you! I will ensure there are maximum volunteering, coaching and officiating opportunities for all students by opening pathways into coach development and match officiating within the intramural program!
