About Us
Edinburgh University Polo Club welcomes everyone from experienced polo players to complete polo beginners. Lessons are held at Dalmahoy, 40 minutes outside of Edinburgh.
The Edinburgh University Polo Club (EUPC) is dedicated to introducing students to the exciting world of polo and creating welcoming, close-knit community along the way. Whether you want to compete, learn to ride and play polo, or simply meet new people and get involved in our socials, there is a place for you at EUPC.
You don't need any previous polo experience to join. However, due to the physical nature of the sport and for everyone's safety, a basic level of riding ability is required before taking part in our training. If you're a complete beginner, we'll point you towards external riding establishments where you can safely build up your foundational skills before progressing to polo. In the meantime, beginners are very welcome (and encouraged!) to join as social members, giving you the chance to meet other members, get involved with club life, and learn more about the sport whilst developing your riding.
FOR NEW MEMBERS and BEGINNER PLAYERS - On the 19th of September 2026 we are holding our annual exhibition match, along with the chance to give polo a go! This is a great chance to see the yard, meet our committee, members, instructor, ponies, and try polo out! If you enjoy yourself, there will be the opportunity to sign-up for our weekly lessons.
LESSONS & CHUKKAS - Beginner lessons are at 2pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Each lesson is approximately 1.5-2 hours in length, and will follow a curriculum designed by our HPA qualified instructor James Douglas.
For our more experienced Novice players we offer a lesson on Friday afternoons, along with stick and ball practice on Tuesdays, and practice chukkas on Thursdays, offering the perfect opportunity to help you progress!
Throughout the year we participate in Scottish Student Sports Polo, SUPA Nationals, beach polo, and host our own tournaments too. There are opportunities for players of all ability to compete, and it's often the best way to learn!
