Edinburgh University Weightlifting Club welcomes both powerlifters and weightlifters of all abilities. From preparing for competition to just getting stronger, we're here to help you reach your goals.

Edinburgh University Weightlifting Club (EUWC) has quickly become the largest university weightlifting club in Scotland. Starting, a few years ago, as a few people lifting in a room, EUWC has grown into a diverse and welcoming club of all levels and abilities.

Historically, the club was purely an Olympic Weightlifting club, however, the 2021/22 academic year was the first year EUWC welcomed powerlifting athletes to the club. We are very excited to see how we can continue to develop the club over the coming years.  

Olympic Weightlifting is an exciting and challenging sport that relies on technique every bit as it does strength. It consists of two movements - the 'Snatch' and the 'Clean and Jerk'. Powerlifting is a gripping and impressive sport which requires athletes to exert huge amounts of power to lift maximal loads in three movements - Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift. 

Whether aiming to win medals, to gain experience, or simply to have fun, EUWC encourages all members to participate in competitions throughout the year. We welcome lifters of any experience ranging from absolute beginners to experienced competitors. With multiple training sessions every week, top quality facilities and coaching, Edinburgh University Weightlifting Club is the perfect place to learn Weightlifting or Powerlifting and to support you in reaching your lifting goals!

All training is in St Leonard's Land Free Weights Gym. Regularly scheduled training commences on Monday 18th September 2023 and ends on Friday 24th May 2024.

Should an individual require a refund – this can only be done by the club you have joined in cash or cheque (at their own discretion). The Sports Union Membership cannot be refunded, and neither can the transaction fee.

You may be eligible for financial assistance to help you take part in sport. You can find more information about the University's Participation Grant and other hardship funds here.
