Edex and recreational sport

SportsFest

Throughout the course of the academic year, there will be several longer-form events held, usually in the format of a tournament. These often feature multiple sports and are open to anyone who is interested. 2022/23's events can be found below but keep an eye out on the calendar and our social media pages for any coming up in 2023/24.

Festive 5s - December

In December 2022, we hosted the Festive 5s competition at Peffermill which provided an opportunity for students to get active during the winter months. Teams entered across various clubs, societies, and friendship groups and ultimately provided a great afternoon of football fives with the Futsal club winning in the final.

EUTTC Table Tennis Tournament - March

In March 2023, the Table Tennis Club, in collaboration with the SU, delivered a recreational tournament at St Leonard's Land that was open to members and non-members alike. This was used to spread awareness of the club and to provide competition for their beginner members. Several members of the International Sports Club were able to attend also. Winners received a free UoE Sport t shirt.

IM Cup - April

In April 2023, Peffermill was the host to the IM Cup event. Netball and Football 5s tournaments were run and the event was advertised as social sport as a means to maintain mental wellbeing at a stressful exam leave period. Entry was free and was advertised initially to current intramural teams before being opened to all staff and students. The sun was shining as Broughton Bulls won the football final and PivotED came out on top in netball.

Summer Series - June

In June 2023, the SU hosted the Summer Series at Peffermill which was a great conclusion to a year of recreational sport. The date was chosen to allow all those who were remaining in Edinburgh after their studies had finished to get involved, be active, and meet new people. Featured over the course of the day were football 5s, rounders, and ultimate frisbee tournaments with Taster sessions being delivered by the Cricket Club and Scottish Disability Sport in Boccia. Caterers were on-site alongside other entertainment. Entry was free and open to everyone.
