Gayle Bell, 1994-1996 Club Captain:

“My favourite memory is probably winning the Scottish Unis Cup in 1992/93 season on a penalty shootout against St Andrews. That just pips scoring an overhead kick as two men's teams past by after their match (also at St Andrews!). We also went on a tour to Holland (Enschede) which was a special time.

I played for Scottish Unis which was only just getting going at that time for women's football, so we felt like we were blazing a bit of a trail.

I treasure the friendships that were made - very many that I still have, and we see each other pretty frequently from far and wide. I loved the competition and to be honest the chance to play football after being kicked out of the local boys' team at 11 years old. I remember distinctly dropping my hockey sticks during Freshers trials at Peffermill when someone mentioned there were football trials going on a few pitches away. Never went back to hockey!

We had an absolute ball as a squad and being part of EUWFC was one of the greatest things about being at the University”.
