Club committee training, as part of the Coaching and Volunteering Academy, has been in full swing over the past few weeks. As well as Stonewall Scotland delivering an LGBT+ Inclusivity workshop, our charity partner SAMH delivered a workshop with regards to mental health and wellbeing.
This workshop was delivered on three separate evenings (29th Jan; 5th & 8th Feb), with representatives from 57 clubs attending, across the three evenings. The sessions were expertly delivered by Kris Kelly, a Mental Health & Wellbeing Trainer with SAMH. The session focussed on the providing information on how you can best improve your own mental health and wellbeing, as well as those around you. Kris also provided information with regards to organisations that can support individuals with their mental health.
Mental illness is one of the major health challenges in Scotland, particularly amongst young people – 1 in 3 GP appointments relates to a mental health problem. Through the Sports Union’s work with SAMH, to deliver workshops such as this, we hope to reduce the stigma, and raise awareness, around mental health and wellbeing.
