Sports Union Round Up Week 7

The Sports Union Round-Up is your weekly source of match news from our 65 sports club. In this week’s inaugural edition, we have results from Badminton, Snowsports, Netball and Trampoline.

Edinburgh University Badminton Club had a midweek BUCS League match against current league leaders, The University of the West of Scotland 1s in the Scottish 1s division. West of Scotland has some of the best players in Scotland, which made the 10-2 victory to Edinburgh so much sweeter.

Edinburgh University Ultimate Frisbee Club were competing for their spots, in the Scottish Student Sport (SSS) Mixed Indoor Nationals. Edinburgh 1s put on a great display by securing themselves a place in the division 1 competition, which will take place later in the year. The 2s missed out on a place in division 2 because of an unfortunate seeding, which saw both Edinburgh teams go head to head with the 1s prevailing in a tight encounter.

A tough weekend for the Edinburgh University Netball Club saw a lot of their teams only having 8 players. The results are as follows:

2s won 59-46 against Heriot-Watt University 1s
3s won 75-33 against University of Abertay Dundee 1s
4s lost 53-25 against University of Aberdeen 1s
5s lost 34-27 against University of Aberdeen 2s
6s lost 29-19 against University of Glasgow 2s
7s lost 57-37 against University of Aberdeen 4s

The highlight of the week was the 3s convincing win over Abertay 1s, what a great way to open the BUCS season.

An amazing last few weeks for Edinburgh University Trampoline Club, saw them traveling to Dundee to compete in the first SSS league competition of the year. The medallists are as follows:

2nd Intervanced Ladies - Alana Dunsmore

3rd Intermediate Men - Will Duncan

1st Advanced Ladies - Guusje Ubachs

2nd Elite Men - Jack Robinson

1st Elite Men - Matt Angelides

2nd Pro Elite Men - Sean Forrest

1st Level 2 synchro - Sophie Weeden and Alana Dunsmore

2nd Level 2 synchro - Rachel Walters and Guusje Ubachs

and the overall best team score came 3rd! - Bansri Dodhia, Anora Denison, Alana Dunsmore and Guusje Ubachs. The results are a good sign for the season ahead and hoping for many more!

Edinburgh University Snowsports Club were in Glasgow few weeks ago competing in the Scottish University Dryslope competition (SUDS) and they had a great competition, finishing in second place!

Individual results are as follows:

1st Individual girls race - Kate Taylor
3rd Individual girls race - Charlie Hilliard
1st Individual girls duals - Kate Taylor
2nd individual boys race - Ollie Krahelski
1st individual duals - Ollie Krahelski

3rd board team duals - Edinburgh
2nd board rail jam - Niamh Mackey

The results are a good indicator as they will be attending the British University Dryslope Competition (BUDs) this week and will be looking to do one better on the larger stage.
