Sport & Exercise Membership and Sports Club Facility Use 2019/20

University Sport & Exercise provides training, fixture and storage facilities for over 40 EUSU Sport Clubs at Pleasance, Peffermill and St Leonard’s Land. EUSU and Sport & Exercise work closely to prioritise and arrange training and fixtures times for Clubs, rather than each of club having to arrange these sessions individually. This allows you to concentrate on playing and training without having to worry about arranging training and fixture facilities.

EUSU Clubs do not pay ANY fees for training or fixtures at University Sport & Exercise facilities arranged by EUSU.

In lieu of facility charges, we ask to club members who use of facilities to purchase a Full or Semester “Gym, Class, Swim” or “Gym, Class, Swim, Climb” membership. This gives use of facilities for training and fixtures PLUS access to a world class gym and fitness offer

Why it’s good for you

Why it’s good for your members

Clubs do not need to collect training fees

No payment for home fixtures or training through the year

Clubs do not need to arrange training slots directly

Facility use AND access the gym for 1 price

Allows Clubs to use first class facilities

Allows them to purchase membership online

Support and investment in facilities, events, promotion, lobbying and marketing at UoE

Support and investment in Performance Sport, Coaching, Gym & Scholarships

What if clubs arranged and paid direct?

The average club would pay over £11,000 per year for training and fixtures or the average club member would pay over £150 per year for just sport training and facilities.

It would also mean:

  • Training and fixture slots would be sold on first come, first served basis, rather than EUSU working to ensure a fair split across clubs
  • Those that did want to use the gym would need to buy a membership on top of the facility fees
  • Those clubs that wanted to use the Performance Gym would need to pay extra

We know that asking Club members to purchase a membership in lieu of training facilities offers exceptional value.

Membership Pricing and Club Rebate 2019/20

  • The vast majority Sport & Exercise’s funding is self-generated through membership and other facility/service charges. Without this generated income, Sport & Exercise would not be able to offer the support to Sport Clubs that it does, including facilities, services, events, marketing, coaching, and scholarships.
  • In order to meet the increasing costs of running and staffing it’s facilities Sport & Exercise will be increasing both non-student and student membership rates for 2019/20.
  • Along with making efficiency savings these price adjustments will allow Sport & Exercise to ensure it can continue to offer the service and facilities users have come to expect.
  • In order to minimise the price increase of student memberships Sport & Exercise will not be offering a Club Rebate for 2019/20. Over the past 3 years almost £100,000 has been “paid back” to Sports Union Clubs but it has been agreed, in consultation with the Sports Union that offering all students the opportunity for a less expensive membership is a better investment of this money.
  • Sport & Exercise do not generate profit from our memberships with any income generated re-invested into our facilities and services.
