Wednesday saw another bumper day of fixtures with 46 matches scheduled to take place and 24 Away matches. 3 matches were postponed to a later date in the year. Edinburgh came away with 23 wins, 4 draws, 10 losses and 6 scores still to come in.
A massive congratulations must go to the Men’s Fencing 1’s who travelled to Nottingham for a trio of matches and came away with 3 wins out of 3, beating Leicester 57-135, Loughborough 92-125 and Nottingham 121-130. Not to be out done, the Women’s 1’s beat Liverpool 99-129. What a start to the season for Edinburgh University Fencing Club.
Women’s Hockey 3’s beat Glasgow 2’s 2-1, the 5’s beat Stirling 2’s 5-0, the 2’s claimed a 2-1 win over Stirling 1’s, 6’s secured a 5-1 win over UWS 1’s and the 7’s put 13 past Napier winning 13-0. Men’s Hockey 2’s played the last match of the day and were on course for a victory, but a late come back from HWU 1’s saw the match finish 4-3 to HWU to claim a vital Burgh Varsity Point, the 6’s travelled back from Aberdeen with a 7-2 victory.
It was a mixed day for Tennis with the Men’s 1’s drawing 6-6 with Stirling 3’s, Men’s 4’s lost 12-0 to Stirling 4’s, the 5’s took a 10-4 win over Dundee 2’s, the Women’s 1’s claimed a 12-0 win over RGU 1’s and the 2’s took the derby rights with a 11-2 win over the 3’s.
The Women’s Football 2’s opened the day with a goalless draw with Stirling 2’s, the 3’s beat St Andrews 3’s 6-1, the 1’s took on rivals Stirling 1’s in the late kick off and the match finished with the score 1-0 to Stirling. The Men’s 1’s welcomed RGU 1’s to East Peffermill and secured a 6-2 win, the 2’s brought all 3 points back from Strathclyde with a 5-0 win, the 4’s (IMS Team) claimed another win beating QMU 1’s 7-1.
The Men’s Rugby 2’s had another close encounter falling 24-19 to Glasgow 2’s, the 4’s claimed a 43-10 victory over Strathclyde 3’s. The Women’s 2’s came from 17-0 down to claim a 17-17 draw and the 1’s claimed another National League Bonus Point win beating Cardiff Met 37-7.
The Basketball Women’s 2’s headed across the city to take on the Napier 1’s and claimed a 77-26 win. The Men’s 2’s took the spoils with a 88-72 win over St Andrews 1’s, the 3’s picked up another win beating Strathclyde 2’s 46-37.
The Men’s Water Polo 1’s travelled down to Sheffield Hallam for what is always a close encounter and this match didn’t disappoint with the game finishing in an 8-8 draw. The Women’s 1’s headed North to take on St Andrews 1’s and in a tough match went down 21-1.
This weekend sees another 38 BUCS matches taking place, good luck to all teams competing in BUCS and National League fixtures.
