“My favourite memories of the club are of snowy days in the Scottish hills, of which the photo below is an example (taken at sunset, Ben Sgriol, 1st January 1977......note the balaclavas, woollen mitts and wooden ice axes!). There was of course more snow in those days, and impressive cornices were common.
I lived from 1975-76 in Graham Brown House, the student house which was the base for the club and housed the library, and from where our bus left for the hills on alternate Friday afternoons: a great opportunity to get away for weekends of walking and climbing! In addition to the weekends, we had some longer meets, notably at the bothy near Shiel Bridge over New Year. I do remember driving a Land Rover as near to the bothy as possible which entailed a couple of miles along the river bed, with another club member sitting on the bonnet to look out for any deep pools which were best avoided”.

"I joined EUMC late in my university career, having been persuaded by friends. I'm still in touch with quite a few people who were in the club at the time, but none of the others received an email about this. I asked them for comments, and there was general agreement that the best thing about EUMC was the shared experiences leading to lifetime friendships. Although we've stayed in touch with one another, and often encounter other ex-Yummicks through overlapping friendship groups, most of us haven't stayed connected to the club - I think it's changed and evolved quite a bit since our time."
