Kate Roadknight

Hi everyone! I'm Kate, EUSU's Honorary Secretary for 2026/27.

I'm a 5th year Medical Student and I've been involved with Edinburgh Sport from my first week of university. I started off by joining the Squash club following a women-only taster session in Welcome Week. I'd played casual squash for a few years (but had been out of it since the pandemic), and had been very heavily involved in music all my life, so jumped at the opportunity to get involved with a new community. I loved the inclusive and supportive environment the girls in the club created for new members, and was desperate to be part of the collective.

I joined the committee as Social Secretary in my second year, alongside founding the Intramural team of Medics Squash (the first non-club IM team in the squash league). I then continued for 2 years as Secretary, and this year I begin a new role, Alumni and Fundraising Officer, as the longest-serving committee member.

Last year I served on the EUSU Finance Committee, putting my experience and critical thinking to good use reviewing funding applications from a wide variety of students and clubs. This involvement in the higher running of the Sports Union inspired me to run for the Executive Committee. Seeing the hard work behind the scenes, as well as the valuable skills I was learning, made me feel much more confident.

My role is a voting member on EUSU committees (including Finance, Awards, Blues & Colours, etc). I'll also be supporting a few clubs throughout the year as their named 1 to 1 contact for the Sports Union.

My aims for 2026/27

  • Confidence in Communication: I'm very comfortable in drafting up efficient and professional messages to club members, committees, business/organisations and university staff. If you don't know where to start, are seeking informal advice, or just want an eye to look over what you've written, email me.
  • Committee Advancement: Raising awareness of the training, development and funding opportunities available to Edinburgh Sport committees to support transferable skills and CV boosting.
  • Informed Support: Signposting the most appropriate EUSU resources for clubs dealing with problems that may crop up across the year. System updates will be better in the long run, but can cause teething problems at first as everything has moved. If you can't find what you're looking for, we'll be able to help.
