Will Maile

Hey guys, I'm Will, the Intramural Sport Coordinator. I'm currenlty in my 3rd year of my Physics degree.

By the second week of my first year, I had already set up my own 5-a-side team with friends from my accommodation and, somewhat reluctantly, been made the kit secretary of my rugby team Engineers RFC. Since then, IM Sport has made up a major part of my university experience. I've seen all sides of the IM programme: I've been relegated 3 times in teh same year with the Warrender Park Wanderers; gone undefeated with the Engineers; raised ~£5,000 for Movember and organised my own pub quiz in support of Conscious Edinburgh.

This year, I hope to promote Intramural Sport and ensure that IM teams and athletes get the visibility and recognition they deserve. This will mainly be done through the new IM Sport Instagram page (@uoeintramuralsport) where we can share news and infromation about the great achievements within the IM programme. Past this, I want to get more IM teams involved in hosting their own charity events and fundraisers for charities like Movember, Scottish Women in Sport and the Rainbow Laces campaign. As well as supporting great causes, organising these events can give students great experiences in teamwork and time management, skills that are essential for after we leave university, allowing people to get even more out of IM sport.

Intramural Sport has given me so many great opportunities and experiences and I'm so glad that in this role I can give back to the programme.

My aims for 2026/27:

  • Increase visibility of IM teams
  • Improve recogniiton for IM athletes
  • Improve student satisfaaction with the IM programme
  • Get more IM teams involved in charity fundraisers
